Do you provide therapy/treatment services?
Yes, The Talbot Centre provides individual, family and group therapy and treatment services for a wide range of mental health concerns and for individuals or families who are looking to further develop their skills in particular areas (e.g., parenting, study) through our centres The Talbot Centre for Eating Behaviour and The Talbot Centre for Clinical Psychology. Do you provide ad hoc supervision?
Yes, Dr Talbot regularly provides ad hoc supervision for other professionals who would like to consult about a specific patient or small group of patients with an eating or feeding disorder, obsessive compulsive or related disorder (including tic disorders and trichotillomania), selective mutism and complex child and adolescent presentations, or who would like to increase their skills in these areas. Dr Talbot also provides ongoing supervision for clinical registrars and fully qualified psychologists depending on their needs. Can you customise a training package to suit our needs?
Yes, although we have standard training packages that target a range of common concerns that schools and workplaces may benefit from, we are happy to tailor a presentation, workshop or full training package to suit your specific needs. Our consultation process involves doing a needs analysis survey of your staff or community members to determine what the goals of the training or educational presentation are and then we can develop a customised package to meet those specific needs and goals. Are you currently running any research trials?
The Talbot Centre is regularly involved in a number of research trials aligned with our value of evidence-based practice. We are not currently running any treatment trials (i.e., trials where specific new treatments are evaluated, where you can often access treatment for FREE or at low cost due to participation in the trial.)
How can I express interest in training workshops?

We would love to receive your expression of interest in attending any of our professional development workshops. Our workshop schedule for this year will be available shortly. In the meantime, please email to indicate your interest and we will contact you once registrations for that workshop are open.

We are also always interested in feedback on workshop topics that you would like us to run in the future. Please feel free to send suggestions through to our email as well.

When should I seek professional help?
We usually recommend that people seek professional support when their psychological or emotional difficulties are impacting on their daily life such as difficulty managing at work or school or reduced social interactions with others.

Therapy can also be beneficial in improving your skills in a particular area such as public speaking or conflict resolution. You do not have to have a serious or chronic mental health concern to see a psychologist and experience benefit from therapy. In fact, research suggests that getting support early (before problems become severe) is the best approach to supporting positive wellbeing.

Emotional difficulties can happen to anyone and may arise at any age. There is no such thing as being too old or too young to seek treatment. Our psychologists are trained to work with patients of all ages from young children through to older adults. It is never too late or too early to seek assistance in managing your difficulties more effectively and improving your wellbeing.
