About The Talbot Centre

The Talbot Centre is a leading provider of mental health services for individuals and families in the Hills District, the broader Sydney area and throughout Australia. We are a team of clinically trained psychologists, dietitians and occupational therapists who provide therapy, skill development, consultation and mental health education for individuals, families, health practitioners and communities within a warm, supportive and respectful environment.

We have a genuine interest in understanding and assisting you with the difficulties you are facing and will work collaboratively with you to achieve practical and creative solutions to assist you to live your best life.

Our Story
The Talbot Centre, formerly Dr Amy Talbot & Associates, was established in February 2015 by Dr Amy Talbot, clinical psychologist, to provide best-practice evidence-based psychological services for individuals of all ages with a full range of mental health concerns.

From humble beginnings, when Dr Talbot traded as a sole practitioner only 3 days per week, the practice has continued to grow and flourish, leading to the addition of multiple associate psychologists, the introduction of new disciplines and the substantial extension of our opening hours.

In support of our vision, the practice moved in November 2017 into a larger, brand new, purpose built suite with a range of innovative features, and was rebranded as The Talbot Centre to better represent our focus on research and training, in addition to therapy services, and our aim to successfully translate the best of public services into a private outpatient setting.

Calling The Hills District Home
Dr Talbot grew up in North West Sydney, making The Hills District a natural choice for the location of the practice.

“I was working at a service in the North Sydney area and I noticed that many of the people I was working with were travelling over an hour from The Hills and surrounding suburbs to see me, and I realised that there was a high need for expert services in my local community.”

Dr Talbot wanted to open a practice that would make accessing expert mental health services as easy as possible for those in her local community so they wouldn’t have to travel so far to get the support they needed.

“As a focus of the practice was always going to be on a community based approach to mental health intervention, education and prevention, I also thought that there was no better place to support a positive attitude to mental health than in my local community.”

In designing our office space we have taken extra care to ensure that each person who enters our space, whether it be a child, teen or adult, knows that they have come into a safe haven; a place of calm tranquility, warmth and acceptance, but also a place of vitality and connection. From the sensory playroom to the kitchen and dining room we have designed our space to feel like your home away from home.

“When selecting a logo and brand for the practice I wanted something that aligned with the reasons why I started the practice in the first place, a symbol of hope, freedom and the start of a new beginning towards long term health and wellbeing, and living your best life.”

Many of our patients have had multiple unsuccessful and/or unhelpful help-seeking experiences prior to engaging with our service. Working with our service represents the end of a revolving door of treatment and a move towards lasting health improvement with a focus on health beyond symptom reduction and this is what the hummingbird represents.

“The hummingbird is a messenger of love, hope and joy; it symbolises freedom, vitality, wisdom and accomplishing the impossible, and represents the journey from the past into the future, making it the perfect choice for the practice logo.”

VISION

Our vision is for all individuals, families and communities to be healthy, content and connected.

We envision a future where our whole community will be positively impacted by our work, leading to the development of a community wide attitude of acceptance and support for all members of the community, encouraging the wellbeing of each individual and of the community as a whole. As a result of our impact, our local community will be so unique that it will attract individuals from other communities to be trained in our approach and to replicate the positive outcomes in their own communities, with Australia-wide and global implications for wellbeing, connection and the resolution of mental health stigma.
