About us

About The Talbot Centre

Based in the Hills District and providing care across greater Sydney and Australia, The Talbot Centre provides integrated, high-quality care that not only improves your health and the health of your family, but also saves you time and money.

Instead of seeing different professionals in different practices, we enable you to access all the care you need in one place, drawing on the collective knowledge and expertise of our extensive multidisciplinary team.

Our story

The Talbot Centre was envisaged by Dr Amy Talbot, a clinical psychologist who wanted to translate the multidisciplinary model of care adopted by the public sector into a private outpatient setting in the Hills district where she grew up.

It began as a psychology practice in 2015, with Amy working 3 days per week as a solo practitioner. Over time, she added other psychologists to the team then, in 2017 became The Talbot Centre, adding other disciplines to offer a wider range of services to consumers and to emphasise research and training.

For us, health is a really broad concept. It’s not just physical or mental health. It’s social health, career health, environmental health and many other types as well. They’re all important to experiencing genuine, deep health and wellbeing.

Our mission

We believe that Australia’s healthcare system needs deep systemic reform. We are motivated and energised by changing the way healthcare is delivered and experienced for the benefit of both consumers and clinicians.

You-centred Care Plans

When you have complex health needs, you may need to see several different professionals, who each give you a different care plan to achieve different goals based on different values.

It’s confusing, to say the least! And it may mean that you feel pulled in different directions.

With us, you get one comprehensive care plan, which is centred on you and your family’s needs and based on input from each professional involved in your care as well as the insights of our wider multidisciplinary team. This plan guides your treatment and involves your active participation since you already possess many of the resources you need to make positive change.

We walk alongside you through your whole journey respecting your autonomy and promoting your empowerment. You receive full wrap-around care from the first moment of contact, not only from your treating practitioner but from our whole team. You also benefit from longer consultations, so you have the time you need with each practitioner and don’t feel rushed.

We support you across the different environments you inhabit, working with your family, school, workplace and other support systems. And we consult with local services so you can access our expertise but see clinicians nearer to home.

Our aim is to make accessing quality, You-centred, healthcare as easy as possible. We offer consultations in person, as well as via telehealth (online video consultations or phone consultations). The Talbot Centre is also open extended hours so that you can prioritise your healthcare whilst still having the availability to attend to other priorities.

An Inclusive Space

We’ve designed our space with you in mind. It feels like a safe haven – a place of calm tranquillity, warmth and acceptance, but also a place of vitality and connection. We call it our rainforest sanctuary.

FAQs

Fees vary based on your specific needs. Please contact us for further information regarding our fee schedule.

Yes, you may be able to claim some of the fees back through Medicare or your private health fund.

Medicare Plans

If you have a referral from a GP, psychiatrist or paediatrician you may be eligible for a partial rebate for psychology, dietetics, speech pathology or occupational therapy services. A referral from a GP is required to see a paediatrician and will allow you to claim a partial rebate for this service. The rebate amount varies based on the referral scheme and type of service provided. Please speak with our client care team for more information about referral schemes and Medicare claiming.

Private Health Funds

If you belong to a Private Health Fund you may be able to claim a rebate for psychology, dietetics, speech pathology or occupational therapy services. The circumstances under which you can claim and the amount you will receive back varies from fund to fund so it is best to check with your provider directly to get the most accurate information. We are a HICAPS provider, allowing you to access your health fund rebate immediately after your appointment. Please note that you cannot claim from both Medicare and your health fund for the same session.

We understand that occasionally appointments need to be cancelled or rescheduled due to unforeseen circumstances. We request that you provide at least 48 hours notice (i.e., two business days) if you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment to allow time for the appointment to be offered to another person. If less than 48 hours notice is given and we cannot fill your appointment from our cancellation list, then a cancellation fee will apply. It is important to note that Medicare and Private Health Funds do not provide rebates for cancelled appointments.

It depends on which professional you want to see and how you want to pay.

You don’t need a referral to see a GP, psychologist, occupational therapist, dietitian or speech pathologist if you’re paying privately or with your health fund.

However, a referral from a GP may mean you can claim a Medicare rebate for your treatment.

If you want to see our paediatrician or psychiatrist, you will need a referral from a GP.
