Comprehensive Behavioural Intervention for Tics & Tourette Syndrome (Live Online)

Comprehensive-Behavioural-intervention-for-tics-1

Event Date:

July 15, 2024

Event Time:

9:30 am

Event Location:

Comprehensive Behavioural Intervention for Tics (CBIT) is the most well established evidence based non-pharmacological intervention for tic disorders and is recommended as the first line treatment for most tic presentations.

Although the intervention has been demonstrated to be highly effective, few individuals in Australia have access to or receive this intervention. In fact, the experience of many families is that of engaging with multiple different health professionals with little to no functional improvement in their tics.

It has been suggested that a lack of training opportunities for clinicians to develop their skills in CBIT as well as a lack of knowledge about its effectiveness amongst primary health providers are contributing factors to this lack of access.

The Talbot Centre is pleased to announce that we are offering our consistently sold out 2-Day Comprehensive Practical Training in CBIT for Clinicians LIVE ONLINE.

100% of prior workshop attendees said that they would recommend this workshop to their colleagues.

After completing this workshop participants will have a solid understanding of:

  • The theoretical models that underlie CBIT
  • Assessment and treatment planning considerations – including when not to do CBIT
  • Psychoeducation information from a brain-based perspective
  • The unique experience of and challenges for families of children with tic disorders
  • How to adapt CBIT strategies appropriately for individuals of varying ages
  • Practical applications of behavioural strategies i.e., awareness training, competing response training & functional intervention
  • Strategies for problem solving common difficulties in the implementation of behavioural strategies
  • Guidelines for working with more complex presentations

Approach: This workshop is designed to be focused on practical applications of the theory and will have an active, practice-based approach with strong participant involvement including use of case studies, demonstration of techniques through role plays and small group practice activities and discussion. Pre-reading will also be recommended. Numbers will be capped to ensure that a practical skill-development focus can be maintained.

Target Audience: This workshop will be relevant to clinicians with prior exposure to working within a cognitive behavioural therapy model. It will provide an overview of the basic principles of CBIT whilst also offering clinicians with prior exposure to CBIT the opportunity to refine their skills through practical application and discussion of common difficulties arising in the therapeutic context.

CPD: A certificate will be issued to all attendees to allow 12 CPD hours to be claimed.

Group Supervision (Optional): Research suggests that competence is developed through the acquisition of knowledge, the development of skills and then the capacity to apply these skills effectively in real world contexts. We are offering participants the option to participate in 3 one-hour group supervision sessions (in groups of 4-5 participants) at a monthly frequency post the workshop in order to have support for applying the skills learnt into real world contexts. You can opt to purchase group supervision in addition to the workshop when you register. Group sessions will be held at a mutually suitable time for registered group members.
