Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) has been shown to be a highly effective intervention for Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. However, clinicians often report that they lack confidence to implement ERP effectively with clients or that they are unsure how to overcome common barriers in treatment when working with this presentation.
The Talbot Centre is pleased to be able to offer this 2-day workshop to assist clinicians to develop confidence in working with clients presenting with OCD. The workshop will provide opportunities to develop and practice intermediate to advanced skills for overcoming common barriers in treatment and to avoid pitfalls that undermine the effectiveness of exposure based interventions. The workshop will also be beneficial to clinicians wanting to start working with this presentation.
The aim of this workshop is to assist participants to develop a solid understanding of the theoretical basis for the use of ERP in the treatment of OCD and to develop practical skills to overcome common hurdles in treatment.
Approach: This workshop is designed to be focused on practical applications of the theory and will have an active, practice-based approach with strong participant involvement including use of case studies, demonstration of techniques through role plays and small group practice activities and discussion. Pre-reading will also be recommended. Numbers will be capped to ensure that a practical skill-development focus can be maintained.
Target Audience: This workshop will be relevant to clinicians with prior exposure to working within a cognitive behavioural therapy model. It will provide an overview of the basic principles of ERP whilst also offering clinicians with prior exposure to ERP the opportunity to refine their skills through practical application and discussion of common difficulties arising in the therapeutic context.
CPD: A certificate will be issued to all attendees to allow 12 active CPD hours to be claimed.
Group Supervision (Optional): Research suggests that competence is developed through the acquisition of knowledge, the development of skills and then the capacity to apply these skills effectively in real world contexts. We are offering participants the option to participate in 3 one-hour group supervision sessions (in groups of 4-5 participants) at a monthly frequency post the workshop in order to have support for applying the skills learnt into real world contexts. You can opt to purchase group supervision in addition to the workshop when you register. Group sessions will be held at a mutually suitable time for registered group members.
*Early Bird Registration is available until 30th August 2022*
Venue Information – Online
As this is an online workshop, delivered live, you can complete the workshop from any location where you have access to a computer and a strong internet signal. The workshop will be delivered via Zoom and participants will be sent a url to join the group as well as information on trouble shooting technical issues, prior to workshop commencement. As the workshop has a strong practical focus live attendance is required (i.e., the workshop will not be recorded as watching the workshop is not a suitable substitute for live attendance).
Event Time: 14 November 9:30am – 4:30pm and 15 November 9:30am – 4:30pm
Times listed are in AEST.
